Michael Komnenos Doukas would have had a forgettable career if it wasn’t for the chaos which followed Manuel Komnenos’ death.

But the twists of fate allowed him to found a new state in Epirus (Western Greece) which would eventually seize huge parts of the Roman world.

    Thank you for these fantastic episodes, they’re providing such an interesting look into this very complex era. During the outro you say we’ve covered all the main players, but what about Trebizond? I was under the impression they formed a third major Roman post-fourth crusade state, but the only news we’ve heard of them so far was when they briefly fought the Empire of Nicaea.
