Excellent questions by Robin and generally very good answers by Professor Kaldellis. I found most of what the latter said about the “Greeks” and the “Romaioi” really interesting and eye-opening. However, I think some of his comments were somehow unfair and biased regarding, for example, the Greek Orthodox Church or the former Greek Monarchy. I believe that nothing is so black and white.I used to be a great fan of Kaldellis’s till I realised that he is not too impartial sometimes. A pity, because he’s a brilliant, super-intelligent historian and scholar, he works really hard, is very motivated and writes very well indeed. But nobody is perfect.
