Wonderful podcast – been a fan for years – great work, mate! Just came upon a hilarious Instagram reel that dovetails quite nicely the epic history we’ve been listening to with the present: https://www.instagram.com/p/DY3bbQUOibS/
Today I have (finally) caught up to the podcast and now feel I can post comments with legitimacy. This is not a bad list (no pun intended), but I would certainly swap Phocas for Irene. I knew you were soft on Phocas ever since Episode 42 and I was scandalized even then. I understand your feelings about Irene blinding and/or killing her son, but, you have not raised teenagers yet. When you have, we can discuss further.
🤣 excellent point
Hi Robin,
During the life of the podcast you interviewed several experts in Byznatium, and you also interviewed Mike Duncan from the History of Rome Podcast. I have been lisytening to other podcasts about other countries and civilizations that affected Byzantium, many of which cite other sources from their civilizations, and they have provided me with additional points of view about events involving Byzantium that are very important. For example, I’m listening to the Turkish History Podcast (which is very good and recommend listening to your podcast on Byzantium) and I am right now in the Battle of Manzikert. The Turkish History Podcast cites Turkish and Arab sources that explains many gaps in the story told by the Byzantines.
The point I’m trying to get to is that, it would be great, if you could have additional episodes where you invite as guests other history podcasters that cover topics and civilizations that affected and/or had some relationship with Byzantium, in a somewhat similar fashion to the episode where you had Mike Duncan as your guest.
For example, I thing you could bring as guest the history podcasters of these other civilizations and history topics:
By doing this you could provide your loyal followers with perhaps a more complete picture regaring numerous events in the History of Byzantium. Think about it.
Thank you, and I think your podcast was superb
