K.J. Parkers book “Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City” isn’t set in Constantinople, but “The City” in the story is modeled on it. The plot and characters are good examples of what a story that’s actually set in Bizantium could be like.
If Mr. Parker’s style suits you, there are two more in that trilogy, and others set in that same fictional fictional universe. “Sharps” is another favorite of mine.
