Our first Byzantine Story nominated by a listener is Byzantine Cyprus. We chart the history of the island from the death of Justinian to the re-conquest by Nicephorus Phokas. Between 649 and 965 the island was in a tributary relationship with the Islamic Caliphate which dominates our discussion. By combing through the sources we can piece together a narrative of the period and gain a few glimpses of everyday life.

Trying to access the buy episode page and it keeps sending to to a server crash page? Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem?
The server for the sale episodes is temporarily down, I’m working on it. Thanks for your patience.
It should be working for you now
It’s working now, thanks for the heads up, your the best and great episode as usual!
It’s ironic that the northern island remained Roman (Greek) sphere of influence as it was closed to Anatolia, whereas today that area is Muslim as closest to Turkey (Anatolia).
Oops. Just heard the end of the episode where you mentioned that. Great minds think alike?
