In Part 1 we have a brief look at Thessalonica’s history and chart the growth of the cult of Demetrios. Then we conclude with the most dramatic incident to befall Thessalonica during the 6th century. The great siege of 586 when the Slavs and Avars attacked. An incident that didn’t make it into the podcast narrative. It is both the city’s darkest hour and the Saints’ finest.
