The History of Byzantium 
Do you know what the roads looked like within the cities, especially Constantinople? Were they just stamped dirt or paved with stone?
I did talk about this during the recent episodes on Constantinople. The main routes through the city did stay paved but dirt roads led through neighbourhoods of tenement buildings or out toward the farm land.
