    Hey Robin

I am wondering why the Byzantines did not at the end embrace and fully apply the western european feudal system.

It has certainly been proved superior during the Middle Ages as the Byzantines themselves recognise that the Latins were strong warriors under strong states, and, moreover, the Latins were able to take Constantinople in 1204. What is a better proof for the merits of that socioeconomic system than the fall of the Empire to the Latins?

Furthermore, I can see that Byzantium itself took some steps towards feudalism via the Pronoia system and by recognising at times the autonomy of Thessaloniki or the Peloponnese etc. But why they didn’t fully adopt feudalism as a means to “reinvent” the Empire ?

Thanks a lot for your work , I just caught up with the historic narrative, after falling behind for a while, and I am loving it!
